Peyote is a mixed media artist and perhaps the first notable artist specializing in bronze sculptures and paintings built from internet culture motifs. He has set out to establish the genre of “meme art” and, in his own words, to “hard fork the timeline of the art world.”

Peyote operated under a different, fairly well-known street art alias in the early 2000s. During that period he travelled internationally, participating in graffiti events with some of the most prolific street artists of the modern era. For a time he believed street art would be the next huge genre to “fork the timeline,” but eventually concluded the work was too fleeting and too hard to truly capture.

 

Some years later he, along with everyone else, discovered internet memes. Fascinated by the speed at which they travelled and the complex messages a single image could convey, he realized this was the chosen medium of the 21st century - people just hadn’t named it as such yet.

 

As Ezra Pound once wrote, “artists are the antennae of the universe.” If there was ever an opportunity to balance on the cutting edge of the next true art movement, Peyote realized he was all in.
